Material Science and Engineering

The Integrated M.Tech. in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is being offered for the students right after their school (10+2), which is in line with the National Educational Policy of the Govt. of India, structured for five years and is divided into ten semesters. The students who join the program will get Diploma Degree if they wish to discontinue after three years and a B.Tech Degree after four years. The program is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals, analysis, and structure-property correlation of various materials systems. MSE is an interdisciplinary field of science and engineering that investigates the relationship between materials’ structure, property, and processing. MSE scientists and engineers develop materials for new applications, improve existing materials with enhanced performance, and evaluate how synergy can be achieved for the betterment of society. The integrated M.Tech degree students develop a fundamental understanding of materials at the nano, micro, and macro scales, leading to specialization in biomaterials; chemical and electrochemical materials science and engineering; computational materials science and engineering; electronic, magnetic, and optical; and structural materials. Several advanced elective courses have been offered within and other departments to train the students to cater to future demands. Moreover, experts from overseas and industries will give lectures for a few classes in selected modules. A research project in the final year on the state-of-the-art research problems helps students get academic/corporate jobs with the M.Tech Degree or higher studies in India and abroad.

Eligibility for Integrated M.Tech Programme

(a) Nationality and Age

Resident Indian or Non-Resident Indian (NRI), holders of PIO or OCI card issued by the Government of India are eligible to apply for SRMJEEE (UG).

Note: NRIs and holders of PIO or OCI cards issued by the Government of India who have not taken the SRMJEEE (UG) must apply under the International student category only.

Should have attained the age of 16 years and 6 months on the 31st of July of the calendar year in which the 12th Board examination is to be held (source).

(b) Qualifying Examination:

All Integrated M.Tech programmes :

Minimum 60% aggregate in PCM

(i) Passed in Higher secondary examination (10+2 pattern ) or appearing in Higher Secondary examination in the current academic year with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following Chemistry, Biotechnology and Biology, Technical Vocational subject, Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics Practices,  Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, and Business Studies as major subjects in regular stream from any state board within India, CBSE, ISCE, Matriculation, or NIOS

Note: Students who have completed +2 under NIOS must have completed the 10th standard from regular schooling or vice-versa. (source)

(ii) GCE A-level or International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma or IB certificate with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies as major subjects (equivalent to Advanced Placement level in each subject) in any International schools within India.

(c) SRMJEEE (UG)

Candidates who have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English & Aptitude in SRMJEEE(UG) are eligible for all the Integrated M.Tech Degree Programs
