CENTRE FOR YOGA - SRMIST
Center for Yoga offers Physical and Mental Health Using Yoga Course (18GNM101L) to B.Tech. (2500 students), MTech (200 students), Medical, Optometry (45 students), Nursing (250 students), physiotherapy (90 students) and other medical studies. About 3000 students are taught this course every semester by Center for Yoga. It is equipped with a yoga hall that can accommodate about 150 students at a time. The hall is well-equipped with wifi connection, projector, mic and audio system, computers, yoga mats, and other educational aids. The Center is also equipped with teaching and material resources to conduct the Course through online and correspondence mode.
The Physical and Mental Health Using Yoga Course has been framed and administered to educate the students on the following:
a. Indian philosophy and culture
b. History of yoga
c. Principles of human and material reality
d. Ethics and values of life
e. Yogic techniques for physical and mental health
f. Development of awareness and concentration
g. Service to humanity
h. Enhancement of interpersonal skills
i. Appreciation and conservation of nature
j. Self-actualization
There are nine faculties at Center for Yoga: Dr V. Parthiban, Dr A. S. Selvam, Dr M. Shanmugapriya, Dr S. Vidhya Shankari, Ms B. Chitraleka, Dr Mythily A, Dr Laxmikanta Rana, Mr Sougat Modak, and Ms P. Mohanapriya. They are specialized in various schools of yoga and can teach yoga to suit needs of women, children, young adults, aged population, and physical and mental health problems. Their expertise includes education, psychology, mind-taming techniques, naturopathy, alternative health therapies, and yogic research. They have held official duties at various yoga-governed central and state bodies, conducted national and international yoga competitions and health awareness programs, skilled at grading sports persons, and strong in guiding students to bring out their hidden potential.

Welcome message
Yoga is the essence of Indian philosophy, human values, the science of health and right living, and societal evolution. Recent times have seen a phenomenal growth in the practice and application of yoga in all aspects of life, with the Government of India taking several initiatives to root the yogic wisdom in the fields of health, education, research, diplomacy, economics and so on. SRM institution has been a pioneer in recognizing the importance and value of yoga in culturing the body, mind and intellect of the students and staffs. Students at present times face several challenges, and SRM has enabled every student with the necessary yogic knowledge to meet the physical, mental, emotional, educational, and spiritual challenges and lead them to holistic wellness.
SRM is at the forefront in introducing yoga to BTech, MTech, Medical, B.Ed, Hostel Management, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and other medical studies. This initiative has created in students the awareness and the willingness to practice yoga. It empowers the students to face current and future health problems, cope with stress, attain emotional balance, develop good interpersonal skills, and excel at academics.
SRM has MOUs and agreements with other educational institutions to jointly offer yoga courses and programs. The importance given to yoga by SRM has led to several achievements of students. For example, many students and faculties have won prestigious yoga competitions and participated in Guinness world record in yoga

Teaching environment and quality are central to SRMIST’s capabilities profile. Our Professors are the reason for our continued ability to foster vibrant and value adding learning experiences for our students. The success of our students’ in terms of their learning and overall development enabled by our faculty members is an area of focus of Leadership at SRMIST. Many opportunities are provided to our faculty members to conduct research and engage with the industry in consultancy and other projects. This platform brings to our faculty members an opportunity to expand their knowledge contribution as well as bring those rich experiential inputs to the classrooms and labs therefore benefiting our students
