In a remarkable display of collaboration and environmental stewardship, the NSS Cell, Department of Data Science and Business Systems (DSBS), and Department of Management at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, joined hands with ExNoRa International and Puthiyathalaimurai TV Nammal Mudiyum Team to organize a large-scale Vetiver plantation drive at Orapakkam Pond.
The initiative saw the active participation of 50 NSS volunteers and five dedicated faculty members from SRMIST. Together, they successfully planted 5,000 Vetiver saplings along the banks of Orapakkam Pond. This effort not only restored the pond’s natural habitat but also marked a significant step toward promoting ecological balance and sustainability.
Vetiver, known for its exceptional soil stabilization, erosion control, and water purification properties, is an ideal solution for rehabilitating pond banks and other vulnerable ecosystems. This plantation drive highlights its importance in mitigating environmental challenges while improving local biodiversity and water quality.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the organizing partners and all participants whose collective effort ensured the success of this project. This initiative serves as a powerful reminder that “Together, we can make a difference.”
Through endeavors like these, SRMIST reaffirms its commitment to building a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
