SRMIST and QNu Labs Sign MoU to Establish Quantum Communication Hub in Tamil Nadu

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST-KTR), Kattankulathur, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based QNu Labs, a pioneer in quantum-safe cybersecurity solutions. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in strengthening India’s quantum technology ecosystem, with a focused commitment towards advancing education, research, and innovation in the fields of quantum communication and cybersecurity.

Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, said, “This MoU signifies a meaningful convergence of academia and industry. Through this partnership with QNu Labs, we are not only nurturing future-ready talent but also contributing towards India’s leadership in the quantum frontier.”

As part of this collaboration, SRMIST will establish a Centre for Quantum Information, Computing, and Communications Research at its Kattankulathur campus. This state-of-the-art centre will house a dedicated Quantum Communications Lab, fully equipped with QNu Labs’ proprietary hardware, software, and quantum-safe technologies. SRMIST will provide the necessary infrastructure and physical space to facilitate this initiative.

Mr. Sunil Bhide, Chief Delivery Officer of QNu Labs Pvt Ltd., remarked, “This MoU with SRMIST is a pivotal step in democratising quantum education and skilling in India. Together, we aim to empower the next generation of educators and innovators with future-proof capabilities in quantum-safe technologies and cybersecurity.” He further added, “At QNu Academy, we believe the future of national security and innovation lies in quantum resilience. Our partnership with SRMIST reflects a shared commitment to building this future—one skilled mind at a time.”

The collaboration will also introduce a Core Elective Course in Quantum Communication for 120 B.Tech students, offering hands-on training and certification delivered by QNu Labs experts. Faculty members will benefit through continuous professional development via structured workshops and certification programs. Additionally, SRMIST will implement a Hub-and-Spoke academic model to mentor over 100 colleges across Tamil Nadu, offering virtual lab access and sustained capacity-building support through QNu Labs. The partnership also encompasses joint research and development activities, co-authored publications, and participation in government-funded projects under the National Quantum Mission, aligning with India’s strategic vision for quantum readiness.

An estimated ₹1.5 crore investment has been earmarked for the development of the lab and training infrastructure.

Founded in 2016, QNu Labs is India’s first quantum cybersecurity company and has recently secured ₹60 crore in Series A funding, led by the National Quantum Mission, to accelerate its advancements in secure data transmission and encryption technologies.
