Naval Wing Cadet from SRM IST bags coveted All Indian Best Cadet Award
Receives medal, baton from Honourable Prime Minister
Naval Cadet 1 Shreyansh Singh, a second-year student of Computer Science and Information Technology engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India’s premier private university in engineering, science and technology, medicine, management, law, hotel management, and arts and science, has received the prestigious All India Best Navy Cadet at the Republic Day Camp 2023.
He received the award from Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Cariappa Parade Grounds in Delhi Cantonment on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s Rally. The Honourable Prime Minister handed over a medal and a baton to NC1 Shreyansh Singh, in the presence of NCC cadets belonging to Senior and Junior Division (Boys) and Senior and Junior Wing (Girls) belonging to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NCC from all over India.
Cadet Dev Pratap Singh, a second year student of Civil engineering at SRM IST along with NC 1 Shreyansh Singh represented Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar (TN, P&AN) Directorate at the Republic Day Camp held for one month at New Delhi.
Starting with the Combined Annual Training Camp, both the Cadets have been preparing vigorously to represent TN, P&AN Directorate. They later took part in Inter Group Competitions before being selected to represent the Directorate along with Cadets from all over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar regions.
Both started their republic day camp journey as Best Cadets from the NCC Unit level and after the rigorous regimental training of various camps they reached the PM rally. The students have been in various Inter group competitions, Competitions at the Directorate and National levels. The hard work and efforts have brought pride to SRM Institute of Science and Technology, kattankulathur.
While NC1 Shreyansh Singh won the All India Best Naval Cadet, Cadet Dev Pratap Singh was the Master of Ceremony (MC) of the Flag Area displayed by the TN, P&AN Directorate.
The Cadets’ achievements assume significance as this year’s Republic Day Camp coincides with the 75th Raising Day of NCC.
It is a matter of great pride and honour that two students of SRM IST have simultaneously brought laurels to Tamil Nadu at the Republic Day Camp 2023. During the month-long event, several events, competitions and activities are held, including a parade by NCC Contingents of Army, Navy and Air Force on ‘Kartavya Path’ (earlier Raj Path) on Republic Day, Prime Minister’s Rally, Flag Area display among many others.
SRM IST gives a lot of importance to the all-around and holistic growth and overall personality development of all its students and NCC is an essential and integral part of the institution’s activities to encourage youth to take part in nation-building activities.
