National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The objective of National Cadet Corps is to develop character, comradeship, and capacity for leadership among youth in India.

NCC Overview

The objective of National Cadet Corps is to develop character, comradeship, and capacity for leadership among youth in India. NCC at SRM motivates the students with best training and the ideals of selfless service. The training inculcates team spirit, a sense of nationalism and it also helps in developing the overall personality of an individual.

The organization is run under the able guidance of Col. Commandant Col. Prof. C. Muthamizchelvan, the Vice Chancellor of SRMIST.

 The SRM NCC Senior Division (SD) Army Wing was established in August 1998 and Senior Wing (SW) was established in the year of 2005, under the unit of 1 (TN) SIG COY NCC, Madras Group ‘A’, TN, P & AN Directorate. The Army wing is functioning under the able guidance and leadership of the Associate NCC Officer – Capt. P. Jekan, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation, has completed the Pre Commission Course and Refresher Course conducted for NCC officers in the Officers Training Academy, Kamptee.

The SRM NCC Navy Wing for Senior Division and Senior Wing was established on 04/12/21. It falls under 4 (TN) Naval Technical Unit, Madras Group ‘B’, TN, P & AN Dte. The Wing currently operates under the able Command of Sub/Lt. Dr GB Sakthi Prasath, Associate NCC Officer, Assistant Professor of English, School of Management, SRMIST.

The first and the second year students are enrolled for the duration of three years. We also enroll girls in the NCC since 2005 and the total allotted strength including girls is 83. The Obstacle Area was established in the year 2009 to train the cadets. NCC parades are regularly conducted in Dr. T. P. Ganesan Auditorium Ground on every Saturday from 7.00 to 11.00 AM as per Parade Schedule. Pre-parade meeting is also conducted in front of the NCC Office on every Friday from 5.30 to 6.30 PM

Aims Of NCC

  • To Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
  • To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.
  • To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.

Objectives Of NCC

  • To fulfill the requirements expected in the latest socio-economic scenario in India.
  • To develop character, discipline, comradeship, secular outlook, ideals of selfless services and adventure spirits amongst large numbers of young citizens.
  • To create a pool of trained, organized and motivated youth with various leadership qualities in every walk of their life and serve the Nation irrespective of the career they choose.
  • To provide a sound environment conducive towards motivating large numbers of young people of India to join armed forces.

Orientation 2024

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) usually holds an orientation program to introduce new cadets to the NCC’s objectives, rules, and activities. The orientation covers key areas such as leadership development, discipline, physical fitness, national service, and the benefits of NCC enrollment.

During the event, cadets are informed about the NCC’s training schedule, the different camps and certificates they can pursue (A, B, and C Certificates), and how it can enhance their academic and career prospects. Senior officers or NCC alumni often share their experiences to motivate new cadets.
