Aligned to the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister declared as part of the commemorative celebration of the 75th anniversary of our independence, Mission Amrit Sarovar Initiative has been launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), to inspire and encourage the participation of Indian youth in protecting, rejuvenating and preserving traditional local water bodies to ensure water security and community development.
In collaboration with the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), MoHUA has identified 300 culturally and historically significant water bodies across the country and aims to assign College Students from nearby government/Private Educational Institutes with Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in defined Disciplines, the opportunity to be part of the solution, of restoring and protecting these significant local water bodies.
With funding of Rs.2 Lakhs collaborated with the Government of India Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs – AMRUT Division, Ministry of Education – Government of India, N-E-A-T AICTE Ministry of Education.
The School of Architecture and Interior design was represented by the centre for architectural heritage and was shortlisted and given an opportunity to study and document Madurantakam lake, out of 229 nominated institutes across India, The documentation was carried out by a team of 15 students from 4th -year B.Arch , led & guided by the faculty team Ar.Shanmuga Priya S & Ar.Praveen M N.
The study and documentation were carried out with an eco-sensitive perspective wherein the underlying history and geology were well understood to have a distinctive & holistic Strategy for the rejuvenation of the Water body.
The initiative focused on identifying the top 25 institutes, and the School of Architecture and Interior Design was ranked in 10th position.
