Strength of Materials Lab
Strength of materials laboratory is well equipped with destructive testing machineries. This lab course is offered to the second-year students from school of mechanical engineering. Students will be able to understand the theoretical concepts of strength of materials and enable them to apply it practically in this laboratory. Different types of tests are conducted in this laboratory as per standards (ASTM and IS) to know the various mechanical properties of a material such as young’s modulus, shear modulus, hardness, toughness, deflection, fatigue strength etc.
Specifications
- Rockwell hardness test

Profile
All the equipments are properly calibrated and tested by the manufacturer in a periodic manner. Final year Student’s project works on testing of various materials like composite materials, ferrous and non ferrous alloys have also been done in this laboratory. A Unique feature of this lab is the “Universal Testing Machine (UTM)”. We have 2 UTM at two capacities of 40 tons & 20 tons. Both the machines are integrated with the computer. Also we have computerized digital tensile testing machine with the capacity of 2.5kN for low load applications. Researchers from our institute and various colleges / universities are utilizing these facilities for their research works and extracting the results in various data formats. We have a fatigue testing machine to find the life cycle of a material.
