Signal Processing and Embedded Control (SPEC) Laboratory
The Signal processing and embedded control laboratory offers the students to work on the computer installed with wider range of advanced simulation software such as MATLAB, Keil, IAR embedded workbench. The students will also be exposed to hardware such as 8051, ARM micro controllers, lag compensator, lead compensator, lead-lag compensator, Real time advanced controller (dSPACE), QUBE servo DC Motor, QUBE Servo 2 Rotary Pendulum system. The students can learn the design, simulation and implementation of various control systems using software and hardware tools. The features and facilities available in this laboratory help the students to do their projects and enhance their knowledge on the latest trends and technologies of Mechatronics Engineering.
This lab enables the students
- To enhance their knowledge in programming and interfacing of various processors such as embedded systems using ARM microcontrollers and advanced controllers.
- To learn the design, simulation and implementation of various control systems using the software and hardware tools.
- To utilize the features and facilities in the laboratory to carry out the project and thereby enhance their knowledge in recent trends and technologies of Mechatronics Engineering.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the lab is
- To do research and develop the embedded systems platform for future applications.
- To promote innovative projects and patent them for commercialization.
- To support knowledge transfer in embedded system design to local manufacturers, as well as to education institutes.
- To implement the classical compensators and controllers.

The 8051 Microcontroller Trainer Kit is a development and learning platform designed for students, engineers, and researchers to study and experiment with 8051 microcontroller-based applications. It provides onboard programming, debugging, and interfacing options to understand microcontroller architecture, assembly language, and embedded system design.

A Lead-Lag Compensator Trainer Kit is an educational tool designed for hands-on learning and experimentation with control system compensators. It typically features hardware components, software, and instructional materials aimed at helping students and engineers understand the behavior of lead and lag compensators in dynamic systems.

Freescale Boards (now under NXP Semiconductors) are a series of development boards designed for embedded systems, IoT, automotive, and industrial applications. These boards are based on ARM Cortex-M, Cortex-A, and Power Architecture processors, providing a range of performance and power efficiency options.

A Digital Signal Oscilloscope (DSO) is an advanced electronic test instrument used to capture, analyze, and visualize electrical signals in real-time. It is commonly used in electronics design, debugging, signal processing, and research applications.

The Qube Servo 2 is an educational rotary servo system designed for teaching control systems, robotics, and mechatronics. It is developed by Quanser, a leader in control engineering education and research. The system provides a hands-on learning experience with real-world servo control applications.

The LPC2148 Development Board is a powerful ARM7-based microcontroller board designed for embedded systems development, robotics, IoT, and industrial automation. It features the NXP (formerly Philips) LPC2148 MCU, which is based on the ARM7TDMI-S architecture and is widely used in education and real-time applications.

The dSPACE MicroLabBox is a high-performance, compact real-time development system designed for control, automation, and signal processing applications. It provides powerful computation, high-speed I/O interfaces, and real-time simulation capabilities, making it ideal for research, rapid control prototyping (RCP), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

The AMD Kria™ KD240 Drives Starter Kit is a comprehensive development platform tailored for motor control and digital signal processing (DSP) applications. It integrates the Kria K24 System-on-Module (SOM) with a carrier card and thermal solution, offering a ready-to-use environment for developers and control system architects.

The AMD Kria™ KD240 Motor Accessory Pack is an optional set of components designed to complement the Kria KD240 Drives Starter Kit, facilitating seamless evaluation and development of motor control applications. This accessory pack enables developers to efficiently implement motor control-focused accelerated applications utilizing Vitis™ Motor Control Libraries.
