About the Lab
At the Plant Virology Lab, Department of Genetic Engineering, SRMIST, the students are currently working on Begomoviruses, a group of plant DNA viruses that has a broad host range and causes yield loss in economically important crops. The research topics that are being carried out are, Genetic diversity of begomoviruses affecting chilli production in Tamil Nadu; Construction of Infectious viral molecules to check the infectivity of viruses on economically important plants; Biological and molecular characterization to understand the genome organization of begomoviruses; Studies on the role of suppressor proteins of Chilli leaf curl virus in the development of leaf curl disease. The lab is equipped with all the instruments required to carry out the molecular biology work
