CIM Lab
The Computer Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) was opened in 2001. It is located at the ground level of the Mechanical C block of the college in Hall MEC102. The laboratory was established to provide our students with the knowledge and hands-on experience in Computer Integrated Manufacturing and consider the emerging research and development in the industrial fraternity’s manufacturing segment. The objective of the CIM laboratory is to prepare the students industry ready and to acquire employability skills with the CNC programming and cutting tool path generation through CNC simulation software by using G-Codes and M-codes. In addition, it is aimed at demonstrating and understanding the importance of automation and its predominant role in the assembly line of the shop floor, so that to satisfy the need for agile manufacturing to meet the urging need for the global competitiveness of upcoming industries.

Profile
Main purpose of this lab is to familiarize programming techniques in CNC part programming through the high end industry software such as CADEM and Master CAM Simulation Software Packages. It is offered to both undergraduate as well as post graduate level students. Students will get familiarize about CNC Lathe part programming for Turning, Facing, Chamfering, Grooving, Step turning, Taper turning, Circular interpolation, Combination of few operations followed by CNC Mill Part programming for Point to point motions, Line motions, Circular interpolation, Contour motion, Pocket milling- circular, rectangular, Mirror commands in addition part programming using Canned Cycles for Drilling, Peck drilling, Boring, Tapping, Turning, Facing, Taper turning Thread cutting and Simulation of Tool Path for different operations Machining of small components using CNC Lathe & CNC Milling Machine. CADEM Package comprises of four modules namely SeeNC TURN, SeeNC Mill, CAPSTURN and CAPSMILL. MASTERCAM Package includes four modules in Turning, Milling, WireCut EDM and Router.
On completion of this simulation through CNC software students will have the knowledge of key manufacturing technologies and their underlying principles applied in current manufacturing industry, and will be comfortable with using commercial CAM systems to solve real world problems. Also, students are expected to develop the ability to work in industrial environment to design programs for various models and various (multi-axis) CNC machine tools. CIM Lab also offering manufacturing automation on Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) including material storing and dispatching equipment AS/RS, machining stations CNC lathe and CNC milling, material handling equipment such as 6 Axis Robot, loading /unloading arm and a conveyor. This lab also offers a Bench-Top CNC Turning Center to know the operational procedures and to familiarize the working of the system. Digital Manufacturing Simulation Lab is also a part of the lab wherein CATIA/DELMIA Software Package and Matlab Software are applied for manufacturing systems simulation. This Lab provides in-depth coverage of Computer Integrated Manufacturing. It contains a high proportion of hands-on study particularly in the areas of computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and manufacturing automation these concepts have been helpful for faculty and student research/projects.
