About the Lab
The Chemical Reaction Engineering Laboratory is utilized by B.Tech. Chemical Engineering students to perform the experiments come under 18CHC309L Chemical Engineering Lab III and the lab component of 21CHC304J Chemical Reaction Engineering, a joint course. The Chemical reaction engineering concepts learned in the theory course are practiced here by performing reactions in various reactors like Batch reactor, semi-batch reactor, plug flow reactor, mixed flow reactors etc, and also to learn the residence time distribution behaviour of various reactors.

Packed Bed Reactor
Packed bed reactors are reactor vessels containing a fixed bed of inert packing material, they are widely used in the chemical process industry and find primary use in heterogeneous, gas-phase, catalytic, and non-catalytic reactions. Specifications Bed diameter: 7 cm |

CSTR in Series
The continuous stirred tanks in series model are used to determine the number of theoretical stages, or ‘plugs’, within a flow reactor. It is a common model for a chemical reactor in chemical engineering and environmental engineering. The greater the number of theoretical stages, the nearer the flow reactor is to true plug flow reactors. Specifications Reactor diameter: 10 cm |

Cascade reactor
Cascade reactor is used in situations where a reaction is too slow, when two immiscible or viscous liquids require a high agitation rate, or when plug flow behavior is desired. Multiple reactors can be linked together to create a cascade reactor. Specifications MFR diameter: 11.5 cm |

RTD studies in PFR
The setup consists of one feed tank through which water is fed to the reactor. The flow rate can be adjusted by the rotameter. Residence Time Distribution (RTD) measurement is widely employed in chemical industries to analyze the ongoing process and evaluate reactor performance. Specifications Reactor diameter: 1 cm |

Semi-batch Reactor
A semi-batch process is when reactants are periodically added or products are periodically removed. Semi-batch reactors lie between batch and continuous reactors in terms of operation. It consists of a single stirred tank, similar to a batch reactor. Specifications Reactor diameter: 11.5 cm |
The Chemical Reaction Engineering and process control Lab is located on B-205, First Floor, and Bioengineering Block.
Lab access time: 08:30 am -05:30 pm
