Biomolecules Biocatalysis Laboratory

Biomolecules Biocatalysis Laboratory

The Biomolecules and Biocatalysis Laboratory offers a better research environment to devise real-time pollution control strategies.

Biomolecules & Biocatalysis Laboratory (BBL) is an Industrial and government-funded research laboratory fully engaged in multidisciplinary and collaborative research in the field of Environmental Biotechnology. Major research is focused on Industrial waste management, which includes both liquids and solid wastes, and the recovery of industrially important, high-value products from industrial wastes through bioprocessing. BBL’s research activities are mainly aimed at mitigating the negative impacts of oily wastes, bioremediation of emerging contaminants, and recalcitrant organic pollutants in contaminated sites and thereby contributing to society. BBL is collaborating with various industries, such as petroleum oil refineries, the pigment industry, Automobiles, Pharmaceuticals and Papermill industry, and developing various biomolecules and integrated biotechnological approaches for real-time problem solving.

Profile

The industries looked for. BBL is actively involved in developing biomolecules integrarated technology for the decontamination of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated sites and also provide a viable solution for the complete treatment of landfill leachate (specially focused on microplastics and recalcitrants) a major threat to both surface and ground water system. Consultancy projects are being carried out for pharma industry for the active pharmaceutical compounds removal, high strength ammoniacal nitrogen removal and drug products testing. Also, it has a vast expertise in the production of biosurfactants, a multifunctional biomolecule through the biovalorization of industrial wastes and its subsequent applications in the environmental management.
