Dr. Karpagavalli S
Working as Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Crop Protection at SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, SRMIST, Vendar Nagar, Baburayanpettai, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. I have 17 years of teaching and research experience at Affiliated Agricultural College under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Obtained my Master degree in M.Sc., (Ag.) Plant Pathology and Ph.D. (Plant Pathology) from Annamalai University and qualified ASRB- NET . Received Gold Medal for Rank student in M.Sc. (Ag.) Plant Pathology. I have rich experience in disease management of various crops like rice, pulses, coconut etc. by worked as Research Fellows for more than seven years in ICAR, AICORP- MULLARP and NATP schemes at Research stations of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and experienced in biocontrol of plant diseases and integrated disease management. Screened more than 6000 rice germplasms for blast and bacterial leaf blight diseases and resistant sources were sent to CRRI, Cuttack. Involved in teaching for the past eighteen years and handling classes for Agriculture and Horticulture students of UG, PG and Diploma programme. Guided the UG students of Agriculture and PG students of Plant Pathology in research as Research guide and advisory committee member. Published five books, several book chapters, technical bulletins, teaching manuals and research articles in International and National journals and popular articles also. Attended 37 International and National seminars, conferences and workshops and presented research papers. Obtained externally funded project from DBT-NIMAT and conducted awareness training on Biological Control of Plant Diseases to students of Agriculture, Horticulture and Science graduates. In addition, trainings given to farmers and SHGs on disease management of rice, pulses and coconut and Mushroom trainings offered to unemployed youths, SHGs and rural women.
