Bakhtin’s Legacy in the World

On November 14, the Russian Studies Center of SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai and Mordovia State University collaborated to present the M.M. Bakhtin Center through a videoconference titled “World Heritage of M. Bakhtin.” The event, featuring scholars, faculty, and students from both institutions, aimed to introduce Mikhail Bakhtin’s ideas and discuss potential collaborations.

From Russia, attendees included Mordovia State University’s Rector, M.M. Bakhtin Center staff, and students from its various faculties. The Indian contingent included Lakshmi Narasimhan, Director of International Relations at SRM, Dr. Kavita Nair, Head of the Department of English and Foreign Languages, and faculty members.

The webinar explored avenues for collaboration, such as a round table on Indo-Russian cultural dialogues, a meeting with scholar E.V. Ramakrishnan, participation in international Bakhtin seminars in 2025, and organizing internships and summer schools for researchers in Bakhtin studies. Key speakers included Dmitry Glushko, Svetlana Dubrovskaya, and Dr. Uma Maheswari, who proposed collaboration in dialogic pedagogy.

The event fostered constructive dialogue, with the M.M. Bakhtin Center offering its research resources and opportunities for publication in Bakhtinsky Vestnik, marking a significant step in promoting Bakhtin’s legacy in India.
