The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRMIST, in collaboration with IE(I), ISHRAE, and NSS, invites B.Tech students from all disciplines and colleges across Tamil Nadu to participate in the SMART PAPER SHREDDER HACKATHON 2025—an exciting multidisciplinary innovation challenge focused on sustainability and smart product development. Participants are expected to design and prototype a portable, energy-efficient, and low-noise smart paper shredder using recycled or refurbished materials.
The prototype should include smart features such as jam detection, bin-full alert, auto start/stop functionality, solar or hybrid energy operation, real-time monitoring of shredded paper count, a compaction mechanism for efficient recycling, and integration into circular economy workflows.
Teams can consist of up to 5 students, with at least one female student in each team. Attractive cash prizes worth ₹25,000 are up for grabs for the best innovations. The final demonstration of the working prototypes will be held on Engineers Day, September 15, 2025, at SRMIST, Kattankulathur Campus.
