Indian Herbal Products Industry – Today’s Challenges & Tomorrow’s Opportunities

The welcome address was given by Dr. V. Chitra, Dean, SRM College of Pharmacy, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. The topic was discussed by Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Assistant General Manager, Herbal Division, Apex Laboratories Pvt Ltd., Chennai. The speaker focussed on the development and current scenario in the Indian Herbal Products Industry. He discussed the current challenges faced by the herbal industry. He also elaborated on the various opportunities wide open to the present budding pharmacists and detailed the following topics

• Herbal drug industry
• Herbal drug regulation and commercialization
• Global scenario for herbal drugs today
• Current status and challenges of herbal drug
• Herbal product cycle
• Opportunities in traditional medicine

Around 65 UG students, 24 postgraduates, research scholars, and teaching faculties attended the CPE program. The students interacted with the speaker and clarified their doubts. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. M. Thirumal, Associate Professor, SRM College of Pharmacy, SRMIST.
