The Department of Community Health Nursing, SRM College of Nursing, organized a Dengue Awareness Programme on 20ᵗʰ June 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the college premises. Conducted at the institutional level, the programme was designed as part of the department’s ongoing health education initiatives and was held under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Helen Shaji, Dean, SRM College of Nursing. The primary objective of the session was to sensitize B.Sc. Nursing I Year students about the causes, prevention, and control of Dengue fever, a significant public health concern in India.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by faculty members from the Department of Community Health Nursing. The awareness programme covered key topics such as the causative agent of Dengue, signs and symptoms, mode of transmission, preventive strategies, and the crucial role of community participation in vector control. To ensure better understanding and engagement, interactive teaching methods including PowerPoint presentations, educational skits, and poster demonstrations were employed. These approaches helped translate theoretical knowledge into practical awareness, fostering greater student involvement.
A strong emphasis was placed on the importance of early detection, timely medical intervention, and maintaining clean environments to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The students showed active participation and demonstrated keen interest throughout the session, reflecting their growing awareness of their future responsibilities as nursing professionals in preventing and managing vector-borne diseases.
The programme benefitted 95 students from the B.Sc. Nursing II Semester, and was effectively conducted by 4 faculty members from the Department of Community Health Nursing. The session not only contributed to academic learning but also reinforced the values of community engagement and proactive health advocacy among future nurses.
