Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme

An Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted on 30th June 2025 at the Hospital Seminar Hall, SRM College of Nursing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, with the objective of fostering a safe, inclusive, and ragging-free academic environment for all students. The programme was organized by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the college, primarily aimed at sensitizing senior students about their role in upholding the dignity and safety of their peers.

The session commenced with a warm welcome address, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. This was followed by the formal introduction of the Anti-Ragging Committee for the academic year 2025–2026 by Mrs. Sheeba Jebakani A, Associate Professor, SRM College of Nursing. She detailed the committee’s structure, responsibilities, and their continued efforts in monitoring and preventing ragging-related incidents on campus.

A powerful and thought-provoking mime performance was then presented by the B.Sc Nursing 4th semester students on the theme “Role of Senior Students in a Ragging-Free Campus.” The mime creatively portrayed scenarios that emphasized respect, empathy, and the importance of a supportive senior-junior relationship.

Dr. Helen Shaji J.C, Dean, SRM College of Nursing, addressed the gathering with a special message, wherein she highlighted the legal consequences of engaging in ragging as defined by the Indian Penal Code and UGC guidelines. She reiterated the institution’s uncompromising stance on anti-ragging and emphasized the collective responsibility of faculty and students in creating a safe and respectful learning environment.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Rathinam A, Professor and Director (Alumni Affairs), SRMIST. He delivered an insightful speech on the emotional, psychological, and ethical impact of ragging on students. He further underlined the pivotal role played by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in formulating and enforcing anti-ragging regulations across higher education institutions in India. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of positive change by upholding the values of kindness, leadership, and inclusivity.

The session concluded with the Anti-Ragging Pledge led by Dr. Helen Shaji J.C, where all attendees vowed to maintain a campus free from ragging and discrimination. A formal vote of thanks was delivered, expressing gratitude to the organizers, speakers, performers, and all participants for making the event impactful and memorable.

The programme served as a strong reminder of the institution’s dedication to providing a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for every student.
