“SAY NO TO DRUGS” – Addiction: Genetic Destiny or Learned Behaviour?

The awareness program focused on understanding the biological and environmental influences on addiction. Dr. N. S. Raja delivered an insightful lecture addressing the question: Is addiction genetically predetermined or a result of behavioral learning? He emphasized recent genetic research, environmental triggers, and the role of youth awareness in prevention.
Dr. Kala Samayan, in her presidential address, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing substance abuse.
The session was highly interactive, with active participation and thought-provoking questions from the student audience.

The event successfully raised awareness among students about the risks of drug addiction and the science behind addictive behaviors. Participants expressed interest in more such programs in the future. After the event, the students took the Drug Awareness Oath as prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
