The Section of Animal Sciences includes Fisheries, Dairy & Poultry units in SRM College of Agricultural Sciences was established to provide basic animal husbandry knowledge and the rearing techniques as part of Agricultural education for undergraduates. It also helps to develop skills through hands-on training on rearing practices in farm units for students. The section offers 3 courses on Livestock and poultry management along with Experiential learning program on Commercial broiler and layer production.  This section plays a vital role in the transfer of scientific technologies and knowledge to farmers through extension activities. In addition, it extends quality veterinary service in rural areas through veterinary camps, farmers training program and on-campus veterinary clinic. Three under graduate courses are offered by this department to students in both Agriculture and horticulture. There is a well-established Livestock farm complex functioning under this department with separate farm units for dairy cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and rabbits. A vermicomposting facility is also available at the farm complex for efficient production of manure for the agriculture fields. The Animal Sciences Laboratory is well equipped with essential equipment’s required as per ICAR norms. A Veterinary clinic is also functioning under this section with adequate medicines to handle emergency situations in which the services of Veterinary Doctors are available to the public on a regular basis.
