Alumni testimonials
SRM School of Public Health's MPH program transformed my perspective on healthcare. It gave me the foundation to move from clinical practice to public health leadership. Today, as co-founder of Niramay, I credit SRM for shaping my journey and inspiring me to serve communities meaningfully.
I owe a large part of who I have become to the School of Public Health. SPH has helped me become confident, aware and has taught me to always see the bigger picture. The atmosphere at SPH has always been vibrant and dynamic with its diverse student population and expert faculties. At SPH, University Wellness Programme opened new doors and opportunities to not only practically use my theoretical learning but also sharpen my skill set. I have been able to improve my public speaking, presentations and research knowledge with UWP. My mentors and faculties have always been supportive and guided me in all my undertakings. With 2 semesters of learning public health, 1 semester of specializing in disaster management and an international internship opportunity, my experience at SPH has been constructive and successful. Although I always had my wings, it is at SPH I have learned to spread them and fly in the right direction! With all the experience, I look forward to working at RIMES(Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa) and continuing to learn and improve as a public health professional and as a person!
I would first like to place a big Thanks to SRM School of Public Health for guiding and bringing the best out of me! To start a career in Public Health was my biggest dream, SPH seeded the opportunities and one such was the University Wellness Program that helped me mold myself better, showcase our talents and was also awarded for creating the logo for the UWP. This surely will be remembered for decades such was School of Public Health. I had the opportunity to Intern with India's leading Healthcare crowdfunding platform ‘Impactguru’ that supports raising funds for patients undergoing financial struggle to support for their medical treatment. I was able to successfully complete my internship with good credits. "If you have a dream, visualise about it each day to achieve the greater good in life".
"Health is real wealth" My vision is to work towards creating awareness and help each individual to reach their health goals.
My 2 Years journey in SPH was a great learning, Coming from a medical background switching to public health initially it was a great challenge for me, UWP stimulated the knowledge about research fields, SPH staffs supported me and provided the resources to expand my research activities. As a part of my course, I completed my internship at SWASTI The Health Catalyst, gained 6 months of practical knowledge in SWASTI in Monitoring and Evaluation unit, every learning seems to be interesting and had to overcome some challenging things like Health care information technology, etc. SWASTI was a great platform to explore and learn things from the experts. I got an opportunity to work in some of their iconic projects like i4WE (invest for wellness), COVID Vaccination and tracking etc. Later, I got placed in CMS (Catalysts management services) Social impact specialists as MEAL (Monitoring, evaluation and Learning) CO-ORDINATOR and my learning continues. Exploring more about Health care information technologies, involving in core activities of strategic planning, investment, Impact evaluation, and management of a Health program, research in strengthening the health systems.
I was the first person in my family to attend college in my entire pedigree. I ambitiously joined and completed mine under Paramedical graduation with my indiscriminate study strategy. Later on, I decided to join Masters in Public Health. At that time only I realized the tentative study strategy only provides the marks (in Just a Number) it will not enhance knowledge, confidence, speaking skills. I would say Honestly my stigma and hesitation were massively eliminated in this SPH department only. They do not handle the student’s manpower. The Faculty are handling (Empathized) and molding their mind power. A few months later I realized my speaking and Presentation skills have Improved without my knowledge. The class, individual, and group Presentations improved in my confidence level and simultaneously stimulated my English-speaking skills and reduced my stage fear as well. This is the one and the only reason I can work with higher officials in UN Organizations. “Without failure, you can't improve yourself” Yes, had so many failures but learned valuable lessons and that failure only identified who I am. Chiefly my mentor did a big role to change my life. That 45 minutes of advice changed my entire course of life while felt one particular situation in my studies. My Specialization improved my Statistical and Epidemiological and skills Knowledge. That is the reason now I am standing and individually handling 2 states of Covid-19 data and involved in multiple projects. The UWP teaches how to do the research and research Paper. Now I am the UNICEF Consultant, and writing so many Quantitative research papers for my improvement.
“Anyway is a way where anyone can go anywhere to do anything and anyhow at any time!”
The whole batch was facilitated with a PC monitor each to work on data export and import using the CommCare application/dimagi application. Each student was to work on different health-related data for the state of Tamil Nadu. The pandemic relevant presentations were assigned discussing about the Virus, waves and its impacts on the population.
Since we were the first batch of the B.Sc. Public health program (formerly known as Bachelors of public health) at the School of Public Health every academic activity whether it was field trip or classroom to online classes it all was first time. The faculties along with the first batch had shaped their presence at the SPH. Academic experience helped the students to work in the field and create a platform for teamwork. We had a marvellous time at the School of Public Health.
I could not ask for more qualified faculties at the SPH. The mentors guided me in every way possible. I had trouble with understanding a few Tamil language taught classes but doubts were cleared as long as I asked. I learnt that persistence is a key factor in being excellent. The care given at the SPH is overwhelming and the whole department is a close-knit circle where it is never difficult to make friends. Yash.
Alumni - batch of 2018-2021 - I have worked as an intern in DMRHS at Teynampet, Chennai. I have gained lot of work skills and experience working as an intern in DPH. I was able to form program profiles for different programs / schemes / activities in India and in Tamil Nadu using authenticated information. I was also able to work in a COVID war room. There were many skills I gained during this internship; one was improving my presentation skills. The school of public health has helped me gain not only theoretical knowledge but has also given me more practical exposure. I am very excited to be part of the first batch of BSc. in Public Health students to graduate from SPH. I had a great experience with SPH and thank everyone who was part of the journey.
