About the Department

SRM School of Teacher Education and Research. SRM University awards a bachelor’s degree in education (B.Ed) to the teacher candidates who complete the course. The teacher training course is of a two-year duration-year each year consisting of two semesters of study. The degree is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institute admits fifty teacher candidates to its B.Ed. Course every year. The course takes a holistic approach and exposes the teacher candidates to scholastic and co-scholastic environments.

The “pandemic years” impacted the institute’s pedagogical methodologies. Greater emphasis is laid on using technological and digital tools made available to the teacher candidates to transact learning and transfer knowledge.

A teacher candidate is thus trained to do the role of an effective and productive teacher in a country as diverse as India. Teacher Education encompasses teaching and learning specific skills and something less tangible and more profound –imparting knowledge, cultural integrity, and pedagogical excellence. Teacher Education emphasizes facilitating the realization of self-potential by mastering recent trends in teaching–learning process created by emerging demands of school education. It has a scholastically advanced curriculum with theoretical and applied research relating to teaching and learning.

Professionally qualified, experienced, and academically proficient faculty mentoring students in all aspects of scholastic and co-scholastic advanced curricula facilitate student learning. Activities concerning human service to achieve the extended goals of education are part of our curriculum. Some of the programs are community activities, functional literacy, computer training, and socially relevant projects.

SRM STE&R focuses on placing UG and PG graduates in government and private international schools, Its industry as content developers. Four months of intensive internship gives first–hand experience to chisel out the most competent teachers.

Our future endeavour would be to try out different teaching models, Professional development of teaching staff, and use research-based knowledge for enhancing educational community development.

The institute ensures that the teacher candidates are thoroughly equipped with all the wherewithal to become confident and competent teachers and build successful careers as educators and take their rightful place as teachers in a pluralistic society.

The future of any nation depends on strong, competent individuals who are equipped to function in a complex and diverse world. Education is an important factor in personal and socio-economic development. Throughout the world, educational systems seek ways to support and assist students in improving themselves. Do my parents care about me? Does my teacher like me? Do I matter to anyone? These are some of the pertinent questions human beings, especially children and adolescents seek for answers. Hence, the teachers get trained here in SRM, will make the students, and they will be able to answer the above questions. Since our trainee teachers are receiving psychological knowledge and training by doing experiments with excellent instruments in Psychology Lab which will enable them to deal with psychological problems of students. The experienced staff members are working hard for the overall development of the Prospective teachers to make their personal and professional life in a successful way. The aspirants are cordially invited for the B.Ed program to enrich your knowledge psychologically, technologically, etc. I assure you all, the teachers who get trained here, will be able to handle the special children in a better way and also will be placed in all types of schools.

Research

Research activities is the foundation of any department, and the teacher Education started its Research activities in the year 2008 to contribute the enhancement of Educational development.

The enriched staff of teacher Education have guided 243 Master of Education Graduates in their dissertations and 207 Master of Philosophy in Education graduates.

Ten of our brilliant students have presented Doctoral Thesis in the field of Education under the guidance of our tutors, which will inspire others in the field of Education.

Teaching environment and quality are central to SRMIST’s capabilities profile. Our Professors are the reason for our continued ability to foster vibrant and value adding learning experiences for our students. The success of our students in terms of their learning and overall development enabled by our faculty members is an area of focus of leadership at SRMIST. Many opportunities are provided to our faculty members to conduct research and engage with the industry in consultancy and other projects. This platform brings to our faculty members an opportunity to expand their knowledge contribution as well as bring those rich experiential inputs to the classrooms and labs, therefore, benefiting our students.

At School of Education, we have endeavoured to provide our Students, Scholars and Faculty Members a platform to stay engaged with the real world. This happens through regular visits to Organizations and Locations outside campus. Additionally, we bring externally located resource persons to take part in our events and share their experiential learnings with us.

Therefore, we are able to maintain a healthy balance in terms of acquainting our students and scholars with theory, concepts, and subject matter as well as simultaneously provide avenues to further apply their learning in real life scenarios.
