The Department of Visual communication is one of the very few private institutes in the country offering full-fledged Post-Graduate and Graduate programs with advanced infrastructure, a comprehensive curriculum, skilled and experienced Faculty, placement process, International exchange programs, lively co-curricular activities like theatre, dance, music, cinema, and painting with an ambiance that encourages students to scale new heights in their areas of interest with a firm root in social sensitivity. It has emerged as one of the country’s leading Communication and media institutes with an international reputation. The program is designed to provide a holistic design education that incorporates technology, aesthetics, and integrated use of various media. The course aims to allow the budded youths to be trained as media professionals.
Courses in Visual Communication examine messages’ nature, use, and role among individuals, small groups, organizations, and society in whatever form they assume- oral, written, visual, mediated, and technological communication. The course ensures students are trained in traditional and modern technology as practice and theory.

Due to the lack of individuality in our educational and social system, the expressing capacity of the students with the world is also perceived the same. The first step taken by a student in higher studies decides his career. Visual Communication is the place where an individual’s imagination becomes professional.The department with academic and industry tied, motivates and ignites the professionals within the student’s community.
The Department of Visual Communication is one of the premier departments in the SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Being the head of the department, I am privileged to lead one of the leading media departments in India. Currently, the department is decorated with 11 Faculty members, 14 Research Scholars, and 345 students.
The Post-Graduate Program introduces students to all streams of Visual Communication in the first two semesters and facilitates them to specialize in Visual Media in the last two semesters. The student chooses an on-campus project and produces a high-standard portfolio for Professional recognition in the Media Market in addition to the compulsory courses based on Visual Communication.
The Department of Visual Communication supports an active community of researchers whose work engages with a wide range of areas including: photography, illustration, film, performance, typography, drawing, digital media and cross-cultural studies of visual communication. Some of the work is historical or theoretical, while others take a practice-based approach to research.
Teaching environment and quality are central to SRMIST’s capabilities profile. Our Professors are the reason for our continued ability to foster vibrant and value adding learning experiences for our students. The success of our students’ in terms of their learning and overall development enabled by our faculty members is an area of focus of Leadership at SRMIST. Many opportunities are provided to our faculty members to conduct research and engage with the industry in consultancy and other projects. This platform brings to our faculty members an opportunity to expand their knowledge contribution as well as bring those rich experiential inputs to the classrooms and labs therefore benefiting our students.
The students are exposed to the real-world creative gateway and industry best practices inside the campus in built-in, well-equipped, full-fledged Studios with industry-standard big shooting with a unique identity. The latest technologies ensure that studios have highly flexible latest digital cameras, cool lighting grids with pioneers in establishing the VTR setup in educational institutes, fully furnished Edit Suite with industry-oriented latest Editing Software, Sound-proofed art-of-the-state Recording Theatre, electrified Photography studio, Computer Lab, and Animation Studio, Drawing and Graphic Design Labs. The studios are managed by efficient and qualified personnel with industry exposure.
