Department of Plant Pathology in SRM College of Agricultural Sciences comprises qualified and competent faculty with national and international experience in diverse fields of Plant Pathology. Funding agency such as DBT has financially supported our faculty members through sponsored projects. In this department the curriculum and syllabi are dealt with Fundamentals of Plant Pathology, Principles and integrated pest and disease management, Crop diseases and their management of agricultural and horticultural crops, study of nematode infestation in crop plants and their management. Apart from this mushroom production also imparted to students through experiential learning programme to make them as entrepreneur. Identification and mass multiplication of biocontrol agents for plant disease and nematode management as ecofriendly approach are also dealt in this department. In which students are exposed to isolation, identification, screening and characterization of biocontrol agents and their mass multiplication. Maintenance of pure culture of biocontrol agents and different types of mushroom, spawn preparations and mushroom cultivation also practiced by students. Practical classes are handled in the laboratories with high resolution microscopes and other equipment’s to show the pathogenic structures and nematodes as well as in field conditions to observe the natural incidence of diseases and nematode infestation. Management of diseases and nematodes are demonstrated in field levels with spraying and other mechanisms.
