Overview
Centre for Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Studies aims to carry out the state-of-the-art research in atmospheric and climate sciences that helps the society to tackle the problems arise due to climate vagaries and change. A group of faculties from science and engineering streams of SRM IST share their expertise to work in realizing the objectives of the centre through research, training human resource and conducting the outreach programs. The centre ‘TROPIC’ aligns to meet the national challenges on climate change, disaster management, and long-term observations of climate species. This center also works towards realizing the goals of the UNDP sustainable development and Mega Science Vision 2035 of India and contribute effectively to the national and international academia and research.
About the Centre
Objectives of TROPIC
The broad objectives of the TROPIC have been categorized as scientific objectives, human resource development and outreach activities which are given below, respectively
To carry out the research in atmospheric and climate sciences and technologies using the observations, model simulations and remote sensing products.
To develop the human resource in the atmospheric and climate education by offering the certificate courses and masters programs.
To conduct the outreach programs on weather and climate importance such as extreme weather events, climate change, disaster management etc.,

Welcome message
Studies on atmospheric and climate sciences have attained a great importance in the context of climate change across the world. To improve the human resources in climate sciences, and to carry out the state-of-the-art research in atmospheric and climate studies, a group of faculty working in the aforementioned areas is required. It also ought to convert the research and information as the outreach that will be useful for the communities at local and global level. Hence, SRM Institute of Science and Technology established the “Centre for Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Studies” with the faculty who actively contributes in the areas of atmospheric sciences and climate studies. The centre faculty has expertise in the advanced areas of atmospheric and climate sciences with a proven academic and research record of distinctive recognitions and publications in national and international forums. The centre has international collaborations and MoUs with ISRO, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and carrying out collaborative research with premier institutions such as Seoul National University, South Korea, Teesside University, UK; University of Leicester, UK; University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’, Italy; Hokkaido University, Japan, University of Saskatchewan (USask) Canada, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, USA, Kyoto University, Japan, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune; Space Physics Laboratory, VSSC, ISRO; National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, TIFR Balloon Facility, Hyderabad Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, National Institute of Disaster Management, Planetary Health Alliance, ISRO etc.,
We look forward to work with the strong research groups, academicians and stake holders to take forward the subject.
