Student clubs

Student Association

In order to foster the various skills leadership and teamwork in the minds of students, we have an active student body.

  • Young Journalists’ Association is an organized student association run by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of SRM IST.
  • The Young Journalists Association of the Department of JMC is the backbone of all events organized by the Department – planning, implementation and logistics.
  • Faculty members are only for guidance in programs organized by the YJA.
  • ‘Digital Narratives’, a workshop focused on enlightening the students about the rise of New Media in today’s world. The program was conducted on 20th March 2017.

Student Abroad Program

In 2012-13, three students in the second year Bachelor’s degree course headed to the University of Central Oklahoma.

For the first time in the FSH in 2010, four students from the Department were a part of a Student Abroad Program for a semester at the Department of Communication of the College of Liberal Arts, University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, Oklahoma, USA. In 2019, Two students from II BA Journalism and Mass Communication were part of the Student Abroad Program for a semester at the Department of Communication of the College of Liberal Arts, University of Central Oklahoma.

Student Fellowship Programmes

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, four students from the department were nominated and selected to prestigious short term fellowships in Japan and the United States. Three of the students travelled to Japan under the aegis of the Japan East Asia Network for exchange of Students and Youths programme (JENESYS) in association with the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA).

One student participated in a six week programme at the University of Oklahoma’s School of Journalism in New Media as a part of the study of the United States Institute (SUSI), a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
