About the Department
It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Entomology, SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, Working at the core department of Agriculture and Horticulture domains, the job ahead of Entomology is very interesting and challenging. Insects have been associated with mankind since time immemorial. However, these tiny creatures have received maximum attention as pests of crops, domesticated animals and a nuisance in our homes. Pests cause an average of 26 % yield loss. The annual monetary loss in India is about 60,000 crores. That much an important core course in agriculture and horticulture.
Entomology is one of the core courses in the B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture consists of a number of units, such as., Entomology, Apiculture, Biological Control and Sericulture. The SRMCAS has expanded its roots into five Department of Agricultural Entomology faculties. The vision of the Agricultural Entomology is to be a preferred destination of teaching, research and extension to produce locally and globally competitive human resource capital and a science-led knowledge pool of technologies and agribusiness modules for achieving rainbow revolution and sustainable food, nutrition and livelihood security.
Agricultural Entomology includes one classroom, a well-established laboratory, and an insect repository room. The laboratory has a large insect collection made available to students. Insect museum big boxes have 30 orders were also established.
