About the Department
The Department of Computing Technologies (CTECH) fosters the future of computing world. The Mission of the Department is to advance, evolve, and enhance Computer Science and Engineering fundamentals to build the intellectual capital of society. The CTECH Department endeavors to be an important regional, national, and international resource center for the development of computing and its applications. The Department is excelling by keeping up with recent trends and evidence of exponential and exhilarating growth. CTECH boasts a vibrant student body of nearly 4000+ undergraduates, 50+ postgraduate students, 100+ research scholars, and a stellar faculty of Professors. During the year 2024-25, around 1200+ offers were bagged by CTECH Department students in eminent industries like Microsoft, Amazon, Fidelity, etc. The students are exposed to a variety of opportunities, such as in-plant training, internships and workshops during the course of the study.
The department is wide-open to enormously prospective activities such as hackathons, industry-based joint-project development, the semester-abroad Programme, the faculty development program, the NSS, etc., on a regular basis. The International Conference on the Internet of Things is an iconic event being hosted for the fourth consecutive year for the benefit of the research fraternity with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals.

Welcome message
Technology is best when it brings people together.” – Matt Mullenweg
As the Head of the Department of Computing Technologies, I am thrilled to welcome you to the dynamic world of our community, where innovation meets collaboration. In today’s digital age, our field plays a crucial role in connecting individuals and shaping the future. In our ever-evolving field, innovation and creativity are at the forefront of technological advancement. As we embark on this journey together, I encourage each of you to embrace challenges, think critically, and collaborate with your peers. Our department is committed to fostering an environment where knowledge thrives and ideas flourish.
Our curriculum is crafted to equip students with the technical skills necessary for success, while also fostering the problem-solving abilities required to address real-world challenges effectively. Our experienced faculty are passionate about mentorship and research, guiding students to explore their interests and pursue their aspirations. We believe in the culture of collaboration, where students can work together on projects that make a difference.
I am proud to share that our students have achieved remarkable success, from innovative projects recognized in national and international competitions to secure internships at leading tech companies. These accomplishments reflect not only our hard work and dedication but also the vibrant learning environment we foster together. Let’s harness the power of technology to create a better world together.
‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.’ Let us inspire one another to reach new heights and make a lasting impact in the world of technology.”
“Together, we will shape the future of computing. Let’s make it remarkable! ”
Programs Offered
Research verticals
Our research centers are supported by a variety of government and industry sources in order to drive new research directions and perform high-quality research and development. Grant programs are supported from internal and/or external sources and offer research funding on competitive and non-competitive bases. They are initiated under four categories:
- Visual Computing focuses on human-centric visual computing, which comprises work across computer vision and computer graphics with cross-over into artificial intelligence, machine learning, education, healthcare, human-computer interaction, and entertainment applications.
- High Performance Computing spreads its wings across several areas, including optimizing compilers, performance modelling and optimization, parallel algorithms, software engineering, Supercomputing. Cluster, GRID and Cloud Computing
- Natural Language Computing finds its widest pathway in computational linguistics and rule-based modeling of human language with statistical, machine learning, and deep learning models.
- Theoretical Computer Science flies in an area that is not much explored by computer engineers and derives its motivation from practical and everyday computation.
Featured labs are initiated to empower students and faculty members to ideate and implement technology-based solutions in varied domains.
- Open-Source Technology Lab, a fully equipped lab with Acer PC’s serves as an eminent center for placement testing to conduct online aptitude tests for students during the placement drive.
- Brain Computer Interface Lab to cater to the research community who work on Human Computer Interfacing and related areas.
- Natural Language and Machine Learning Lab, which makes the students learn the nuances of these domains for better landings in companies like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Thought Works, and Yahoo whose main focus is on NLP and Machine Learning.
- Wireless Sensor Lab envisioned to provide a practical experience of designing, deploying, and implementing wireless sensor networks in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Software Defined Networks Lab is equipped with advanced equipment to enable hardware-based, emulation-based and simulation-based studies for SDN and WSDN.
- A virtual Lab – a remote-access to simulation-based Labs to provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs with additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations, and self-evaluation.

Faculty
Teaching environment and quality are central to SRMIST’s capability profile. Our professors are the reason for our continued ability to foster vibrant and value adding learning experiences for our students. The success of our students’ in terms of their learning and overall development enabled by our faculty members is an area of focus for leadership at SRMIST. Many opportunities are provided to our faculty members to conduct research and engage with the industry in consulting and other projects. This platform brings our faculty members an opportunity to expand their knowledge contribution as well as bring those rich experiential inputs to the classrooms and labs, therefore benefiting our students.
