The Department of Civil Engineering at Kattankulathur is one of the pioneer departments of the Institute, established in 1985. The department has excelled in the areas of Academics, Research, Cultural and Sports, developing a reputation up to global standards.

Our department’s vision is to become a frontier in various fields of Civil Engineering education and research to meet national and global challenges in accordance with societal needs. And our missions are: to move up through international alliances and collaborative initiatives in civil engineering to achieve global excellence; To accomplish a process to advance knowledge in a rigorous research environment related to civil engineering and allied disciplines; To attract and build people in a rewarding and inspiring environment by fostering freedom, empowerment, creativity, and innovation.

Our undergraduate program, B.Tech. Civil Engineering has been accredited by ABET (EAC). The department currently offers two undergraduate programs, namely B.Tech. Civil Engineering and B.Tech. Civil Engineering with computer applications. The department offers postgraduate programs in Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Remote Sensing and GIS. In addition, a PhD program in Civil engineering is offered as part of the curriculum to keep pace with the emerging fields. The framework of the programs provides ample opportunities for the student to get trained as an academician, industrialist, researcher, or entrepreneur. The department has produced eminent engineers who are committed to the highest level of professional standards in the field of Engineering and Technology.

The department possesses eminent, experienced, and dedicated teaching faculty with teaching and research excellence who produce quality publications arising out of research and consultancy activity in their field of interest. The department also possesses excellent infrastructure facilities on par with international standards, which enables us to produce Civil Engineers of high calibre. The department possesses twelve basic and advanced laboratories to cater to academic and research needs, six signed MoUs, thirty-two patents, eleven completed/ongoing externally funded projects, and five current (international and national) student chapters. To achieve the goal of promoting the students to be innovative and to excel in the field of their interest, the department fosters research aptitude in students by introducing them to the state-of-the-art technologies, latest technological developments in the field through internship training, Industrial and field visits, and collaborative research activities. Efforts are being taken by the department to get upgraded in Academic, Research, Co-curricular, and Extra-Curricular Activities from the stakeholder’s feedback. Students are involved in activities to realize the significance of engineering solutions in addressing problems of social relevance. The diversity of the faculty’s expertise is a vital asset of the department which enables the student to get exposed to a multi-specialized environment to decide their career.

A strong alumni base is created, and their contribution to the development of the department is perceived by providing ample opportunities to students to use the experts network to enrich their careers and to acquire experiential learning exposures through frequent interactions organized by the department/institute.

The vibrant community of the faculty of Civil Engineering where aspiring students prepare themselves to pursue higher studies in the same or related fields; to perform as professional engineers in Civil Engineering or in diverse fields, and gradually move into teamwork and leadership positions; and to contribute to the development of the profession, nation, and society.
