It is a Primary and Multidisciplinary Department with faculty experts from diverse domains including Biochemistry, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Crop Physiology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Agricultural Statistics. These academic fields are fundamental pillars in horticulture, facilitating at graduate and postgraduate levels, educating students in academic and scientific comprehension, and empowering them to conduct autonomous and original research. The department collaboratively function with other departments to provide students with high-quality education and hands-on experience. It offers advanced facilities and fully equipped laboratories for teaching and guiding research at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Department is dedicated to fostering the need for fundamental knowledge and the importance of Basic Sciences to enhance the student’s ability in understanding the concepts of Horticultural Sciences. The Department is involved in the enrichment of knowledge of students to extend the applications of information technology for smart agriculture, agricultural geo-informatics and data analysis. The specific courses are included in the curriculum and the students are appropriately trained.
In addition to academics, the department shows interest in the overall development of students’ personalities, communication and soft skills to keep them on track to tackle the challenges to be faced in the current competitive world.
