Centre For Immersive Technologies

About The Centre

The Center for Immersive Technologies is one of its kind established by the management of SRMIST. The center has ambitious plans to contribute in the fields of Virtual reality (VR), Augmented reality (AR), Mixed reality (MR) and Haptics. Some of the core functions of the center are as follows:

  • Immersive Curriculum-content Development for SRMIST Programmes
  • Facilitating infrastructure to Make Use of Existing Repositories
  • Faculty development by training them in immersive technologies to enable content development by individual departments
  • Training and SRMIST Student Engagement
  • Industry Engagement
  • Research & New Product Development
  • Popularizing X-reality & Exhibit Development
  • Societal Contributions

Welcome message

With the X-reality (XR) revolution already underway, it’s easy to imagine a future in which the lines between the real world and the virtual world become even more blurred than they are today. Newer ways to interact with computers and digital content are expected to emerge. Such a future will be made a reality by active developments in the X-reality space through structured education, ground-breaking research and active collaborations. The Center for Immersive Technologies is striving for creating and sustaining such an environment for students, researchers and industrial collaborators. We welcome you to the Center for Immersive Technologies to find out ways to use the X-R technologies like Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality in your domain of science, technology and engineering.

Programs Offered

Minor Degree Program in X-Reality

The minor Degree program is intended to expose students from other disciplines to the unlimited opportunities for innovation in these exciting technologies, the methodologies and tools used through a structured balance between theory and practice. The program is expected to accommodate students of diverse backgrounds

Infrastructure

In-House Initiatives of CIT

AR Indoor Navigation

A Mobile based AR project for indoor navigation using visual odometry and unity navigation.

Digital Twin of CIT Floor Space

A VR Experience of the CIT’s floor space simulated on an exact scale with 3D-Model. One of the competencies of the CIT is creating 3D replicas from real world objects and scenes.

Mobile AR Motherboard

An AR project with Image Tracking to identify and educate  different parts and their significance in a motherboard.

Interactive VR Visualization of Equivalent Angle-Axis Representation

In spatial descriptions of rigid bodies, representing rotation has numerous ways. The equivalent angle-axis is one of the methods which does not suffer from singularity in representation.

Collaborative Projects with Various Departments of SRMIST

VR-Based Upper Limb Rehabilitation 1 :

A VR project for the rehabilitation of stroke patients where based on the shoulder movement exercise “the sun” in a simulated environment rises and falls, where the exercise cycle is counted to check the rehabilitation stage.

VR-Based Upper Limb Rehabilitation 2 :

A VR project for the rehabilitation of stroke patients where based on the shoulder and elbow movement exercise “the baloon” in a simulated environment is crushed. The exercise cycle is counted to check the rehabilitation stage.

VR-Based Upper Limb Rehabilitation 3 :

A VR project for the rehabilitation of stroke patients where patients are asked to collect the fruit from a tree to basket , where the number of collected fruits are counted to check the rehabilitation stage.

Industrial Visit to VR Electrical Substation

The project is an attempt to develop a complete industrial visit to a virtual substation and understand the nuances of its working in detail.
