Climatology lab

Climate plays a significant role in the design of buildings and hence detailed understanding of the climatic context in which buildings are designed is essential for an integrated architectural design process. To aid this, the curriculum of Bachelor and Master program in architecture has been integrated with courses pertaining to Sustainable Architecture such as Climate Responsive Architecture, Green buildings strategies for Tall Buildings, Performance Evaluation Tools for sustainable buildings etc. To facilitate the teaching process of these courses, the Climate and Built Environment Lab has been established and it is equipped with various instruments and software to understand the climatic parameters and to analyze the climatic performance of built environment.  Equipment in the lab include Stevenson screen, Solarimeter, Wind Vane, Anemometer, Portable WBGT PMV & PPD meter, Sound level meter, Digital lux meter, Thermo Hygrometer, 12-Channel Data logging Thermometer, Temperature and humidity Data Logger, Infra-Red Thermal Camera, Infrared Thermometer, U-Value Promo set, Air velocity & IAQ measuring instrument, Wi-Fi data logger with integrated sensors for temperature, humidity, lux and UV radiation etc. The students are given exercises involving the usage of this facility available in the lab for various theory courses and architectural design courses. It provides them with hands on experience and encourages them to explore and research on various topics related to sustainability which is the need of the hour.
