About SRM SAE Collegiate Club

The SRM SAE Collegiate Club is the foremost Techno-Management club affiliated to SAEINDIA and is highly student-driven. It was formulated on the basis of the core values and vision of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and strives to bring about a positive change to the society. 

It is led on its path to improve technical education and awareness by three very prominent and efficient Faculty Advisors, namely, Dr. M. Cheralathan, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM IST and Chairman, SAEINDIA Southern Section, Mahindra World City Division and Prof. P. Baskara Sethupathi, Assistant Professor (Sr.G), Department of Automobile Engineering and Treasurer of SAEINDIA Southern Section, Mahindra World City Division.

The SRM SAE Collegiate Club supports all the activities of SAEINDIA and SAEINDIA Southern Section has conducted numerous events like SUPRA, BAJA, Aero Design Challenge, Tractor Design Competition, By Cycle Design Competition, Electric Two-Wheeler Design Competition, Autonomous Vehicle Design Competition and the newly launched, Electric Four Wheeler Design Competition, apart from SAEINDIA Southern Section Student Convention Tier I, II & III events. 

Student members have also shown great initiative and support for continuous improvement and have upheld the SRM & SAE name in all their endeavors.

SRMIST is the authorized training partner of the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC). The ASDC is the first development skill council of India, promoted by the Automobile industry through various bodies. The aim of SRM – ASDC is to make skills as enablers of our sector’s growth. This center aims to provide the skills and knowledge for school/college dropouts to ensure jobs in the formal sector and improve the social development of society.

SRM – ASDC Centre provides hands-on training skills in the following Qualification Pack (QP) as per NSDC standard.

  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Automotive Electrician
  • Automotive Brake Specialist
  • Automotive AC Specialist

The objective of this course is to make industry-ready engineers. This course consists of the following components.

  • Diagnosis and routine repair requirements of the vehicle
  • Major repairs and Overhauling of the vehicle
  • Diagnosis and repair of Electrical and electronic faults in a vehicle.

These QPs are delivered as 80% practical 20% theory and at the end of the course, an assessment is carried out by ASDC. Successful candidates’ details and their domain specialization are available at the Skill development management system (SDMS) portal.

The center of skill development trained 164 students in 2018. Conducted job fair through ASDC and provided placement and guidance for more than 200 candidates.
