Evidence-Based Literary and Cultural Analysis

On May 2, 2025, the Department of English and Foreign Languages at the College of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, organized an Expert Talk on Evidence-Based Literary and Cultural Analysis. The session was led by Dr. Rayson K. Alex, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, BITS Pilani. Dr. Alex discussed various research methodologies and emphasized the importance of critically examining foundational assumptions to refine and shape research ideas. He also highlighted how evidence-based approaches in literary research contribute to refining arguments and strengthening the validity of scholarly work.

Dr. Alex also elaborated on the role of empirical and contextual evidence in supporting literary arguments, explaining how such evidence enhances the credibility and depth of academic writing. He illustrated these ideas through relevant examples from his own research and broader trends in contemporary literary studies. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students and faculty engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on methodological challenges and opportunities in literary research. The session was attended by 70 participants, comprising both research scholars and faculty members. Overall, the expert talk was intellectually enriching and served as a meaningful platform for budding researchers and professionals.
