Housekeeping service

Housekeeping

Our 234 staff members provide daily cleaning services to over 32, 00,000 square feet of public, academic, administrative and residential spaces at SRMIST. They also coordinate trash removal at all buildings, roads, parking areas, garden areas, open grounds and events area in daily basis.

The Institution is committed to being a model of sustainability and is constantly looking for ways to incorporate sustainable, eco-friendly practices where possible. It is cleaned with chemicals that protect the environment. The classrooms and toilet areas are cleaned three times and the teachers’ workspace once. Dustbins are placed in each classroom and teacher’s rooms. There are two bins on the common corridors & road sides. Students are to dispose garbage separate – compostable (wet) and non-compostable (dry) waste.

Each floor has two aayas to clean classrooms, laboratories and teaching rooms. The dust that occurs during this cleaning is placed in the garbage collection area near that building every day. The compostable waste is sorted into non-compostable waste by the staff at the collection point where it is taken daily by truck every day and collected at the garbage disposal site.

Bio-degradable waste is converted into compost and used for the garden. Non-compostable waste is segregated and sold as paper, plastic, aluminum, cardboard and glass.

The SRMIST Department of Maintenance and Housing Housekeeping has the privilege of taking care of all housing facilities. The students are our customers, and we enjoy taking care of them and being a part of their lives. Our facilities are open and available to our customers on all seven days of the week, which includes holidays and weekends.

Our primary purpose is to provide general housekeeping/custodial services designed to maintain all Institution Housing facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. Our basic services include, but are not limited to, trash removal, road cleaning, common area cleaning, recycling programs, grounds maintenance, regular cleaning of both public and residential areas,  and custodial support for seminar/conference programs.

Housekeeping staff also act as an informal security system throughout buildings, helping to prevent vandalism and theft.
