Opportunities, Language and Culture

On September 9, 2024, the Department of English and Foreign Languages held a Language and Culture workshop at TP Ganesan Mini Hall 1 Auditorium. The workshop aimed to teach Japanese basics and showcase Japan’s rich culture, promote cultural exchange, and improve cross-cultural communication skills. The first session began with the Presidential address of Registrar Dr. S. Ponnuswamy, followed by a welcome speech from Dr. L. Kavitha Nair. The chief guest, Dr. Ashok Kumar Chawla, briefly discussed Japanese Language and Opportunities in India and Japan. Interactive activities included an origami workshop, calligraphy demonstrations, and quizzes on Japanese history, food, and pop culture. The day ended with a Q&A session, where participants asked questions about Japan, its language, culture, and travel tips. Participation and feedback were high, with students praising the immersive and hands-on approach. The event encouraged cultural curiosity and global perspectives, boosting students’ diversity appreciation. Future language and culture workshops for other regions are being considered. The Japanese workshop was a success, revealing the beauty and complexity of Japan’s language and culture and raising college students’ cross-cultural awareness.
