A blood donation rally was held on 12.6.2024 and organized by the Department of Transfusion Medicine, S.R.M Medical College Hospital & Research Centre in view of celebrating World Blood Donor’s Day which falls on 14th June 2024. This rally was held to create awareness about blood donation among the staff and students on our SRM campus. The meeting point for the rally was the SRM Tech park entrance where students and faculty from various departments of SRMIST assembled for the rally. The welcome address was given by Dr. R. Raj Bharath, Professor & Head, of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre. Dr. Nitin. M. Nagarkar, Dean, S.R.M Medical College Hospital &Research Centre gave the inaugural address stressing the need for the rally to create blood donation awareness in the society. Dr. Venkatraman, Medical Superintendent, S.R.M Medical College Hospital & Research Centre and Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director, Campus life highlighted the requirement of blood transfusion for patients undergoing surgery and medical illness.
The NSS programme advisor, Dr. Lakshmanan and Dr. Jagadeesh from NSS Pharmacy, stressed the need to motivate the students’ community to donate blood. Dr. Nitin .M. Nagarkar, Dean, S.R.M Medical College Hospital & Research Centre flagged off the rally at SRM Tech park entrance. The rally consisted of over 60 people who held banner and placards in which slogans regarding blood donation were written in both English and Tamil to create awareness among the students community. Caps and badges with captions of “world blood donor’s day 14th June 2024” were distributed to the volunteers participating in the rally. The rally continued via SRM hospital and finished at SRM university building with the volunteers enthusiastically raising blood donation slogans highlighting the theme of this world blood donors day 2024 “ 20 years of celebrating giving: Thank you, blood donors!”. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Kingsley, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood centre and refreshments were served for the volunteers after the completion of the rally.
