About Convocation
Convocation is a significant event that celebrates the academic achievements of graduating students. It is a formal ceremony where degrees, diplomas, and other academic distinctions are conferred upon students who have successfully completed their studies at SRMIST.
The convocation ceremony is typically held annually and is attended by the graduating students, faculty members, dignitaries, and parents. During the event, students wear traditional graduation attire, to mark the culmination of their educational journey and transition into the next phase of their lives.
SRMIST Convocation is a momentous occasion for students as they embark on their professional journeys and contribute to society. It serves as a reflection of the academic excellence and the efforts put in by both the students and the institution.

21st Convocation
10-Aug-2025 (Sunday)
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) held its 21st Convocation for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur. Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO, addressed the graduates, sharing India’s space journey—from the first rocket launch in 1963 to today’s global achievements, including 433 satellite launches for 34 countries, the first Mars orbit success, and a Moon South Pole landing in 2020.
He highlighted recent milestones such as the world’s most cost-effective satellite launch (July 2025), the rapid development of a 5,000 kg rocket stage, and ISRO’s expanding applications in weather, disaster management, telecom, and fisheries. Future goals include tripling operational satellites, launching a space station by 2035, and sending astronauts to the Moon by 2040.

20th Convocation

The 20th (special) Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) was held on 15 November 2024 at Kattankulathur. A total of 10,848 students of UG, PG, and PhD programs in Science and Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, Management, Law, and Agricultural Sciences were awarded their degrees.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Mahesh Chandra Misra, Former Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. In his address to a full auditorium, Prof. Misra encouraged the graduates to be willing to learn, unlearn, and relearn and to be up to date in all aspects of a fulfilled life. Further, he advised them to lead healthy and positive lives.
The Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, presided over the ceremony along with SRMIST’s Pro-Chancellor (Academics) Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan. The Annual Report was presented by the Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan.
20th Convocation

The 20th Convocation of SRMIST celebrated the graduation of 8,438 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Chief Guest AICTE Chairman T. G. Sitharaman emphasized the importance of skills and adaptive learning, as outlined in the New Education Policy, for thriving in a dynamic job market. He highlighted India’s position as the third-largest startup ecosystem, driven by youth from diverse institutions.
Founder Chancellor Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar presided over the ceremony, with Vice-Chancellor Professor C. Muthamizhchelvan presenting the annual report. Among those present were Pro-Chancellor (Administration) Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu, Pro-Chancellor (Academics) Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Co-Chairman Mr. S. Niranjan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (MHS) In-charge Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Controller of Examinations Dr. K. Gunasekaran, and UGC Nominee Commander V. K. Jaitly.

Convocation 2023
The Graduation Day ceremony held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology was a prestigious event, characterized by the conferment of academic honors of more than 8,500 graduates. The auditorium resonated with enthusiastic applause as each graduate walked on stage to receive their degrees from the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. Ricardo Leon Borquez, President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
During the ceremony, Honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) degrees were conferred upon Dr. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India, and Dr. P. Veeramuthuvel, Project Director of Chandrayaan – 3 at ISRO (Bengaluru), by Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, recognizing their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
19th Convocation
On July 8th, 2023, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) celebrated its 19th Convocation with Union Minister for Railways, Shri. Ashwini Vaishnaw, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The event witnessed the conferring of degrees upon 7,683 graduates, comprising PhD scholars and students who achieved medals across various faculties.
In his speech at the 19th Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Information & Technology, expressed his belief that today’s youth are stepping into a world brimming with thrilling possibilities. The Minister emphasized the role of venture capitalists, the Central Government’s support for fostering a Startup culture and ecosystem, and institutions like SRM in paving the way for numerous opportunities for the young generation.

Convocation 2022
The world is looking at India with admiration and expectations that we will contribute to solving global issues such as clean energy, water remediation, clean environment, said Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. This is certainly within our reach, said Professor Ajay. He was the chief guest at the 18th convocation day.
He was delivering the graduation day address at the 18th convocation day at SRM Institute of Technology at Kattankulathur near Chennai today. Founder Chancellor of SRMIST Dr. T R Paarivendhar presided over the convocation in which over 7380 graduands from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology including 107 Ph.D. Scholars received degrees and 77 students who have secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks in their respective subjects were awarded gold medals.
18th Convocation
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri.Om Birla emphasized the importance of increased involvement of people, especially youngsters, in the administration process during his convocation day address at the Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
A total of 7125 students from various disciplines, including science and humanities, management, law, agriculture, medicine, and health sciences, were awarded degrees during the convocation. The eligible students who completed their Degree / Diploma from November include those from Engineering & Technology (PG Programmes), Medicine & Health Sciences, Management, Science and Humanities, Law, and Agricultural Sciences (Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, and Vadapalani).
