With over 3 decades of dedication to medical education and healthcare, Dr. Nitin Madhusudan Nagarkar, former Director of AIIMS Raipur, brings his wealth of expertise and leadership to SRM Institute of Science & Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, Chennai, where he currently serves as Dean (Medical) and Pro Vice-Chancellor I/C. His illustrious career is marked by numerous contributions to medical education, research, and healthcare administration.

Dr. Nagarkar earned his MBBS from Patna University in 1987 and subsequently completed his MS (ENT) from the prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh, along with a DNB (ENT) from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, in 1992 and 1993, respectively. With a specialization in ENT, head and neck surgery, and a particular focus on oncosurgery, Dr. Nagarkar is widely respected in his .eld. Over his career, he has contributed more than 150 scholarly articles in national and international journals, authored two comprehensive books, “Rhinosporidiosis” and “Atlas of Head Neck and Skull Base Surgery,” contributed six book chapters, and holds three patents and a copyright.

During his tenure as Director at AIIMS Raipur, which spanned 11 years, Dr. Nagarkar also held additional responsibilities at AIIMS Bhopal. Under his guidance, AIIMS Raipur saw significant advancements, especially in the .elds of ENT and oncosurgery. His commitment to medical research and education extends beyond academia; he has participated as a director, chairperson, or resource person in over 100 national and international conferences and contributed numerous papers at these forums.
Dr. Nagarkar’s expertise has been recognized at the national level through various roles, including membership in the Academic Council of IGNOU, New Delhi (2013–2015), the Expert Group for Research at IIM Raipur, and the Court of Guru Ghasidas Vishwa Vidyalaya (Central University), Bilaspur, as appointed by the MHRD from 2014 to 2017.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nagarkar has received numerous accolades, including the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Delhi Medical Association (2006), the “Times of India Icons of Health Award” (2016 and 2017), and a “Certificate of Appreciation” from the Government of Chhattisgarh on Republic Day 2021 for his exceptional service in COVID-19 prevention. In 2023, he was honored by the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh with the “Distinguished Service Award” for his outstanding contributions to healthcare services.
