03 July 2025: SRM Institute of Hotel Management (SRM IHM), a constituent of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, achieved a Triumph World Record by preparing and arranging 1993 baked Medhu Vadas in the formation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – Zero Hunger alongside the SRM IHM insignia.
Titled Baking for the Better World, the event united 93 students and staff members in a meaningful initiative that was both symbolic and action-driven, aimed at addressing hunger and advocating sustainable food practices. Significantly, the number 1993 represents the founding year of SRM IHM. The choice to bake rather than deep-fry the Medhu Vadas emphasized a healthier, environmentally conscious approach to traditional cuisine.
The following dignitaries graced the occasion:
- Mr. Vishnukumar, CEO of Triumph World Records
- Dr. D. Antony Ashok Kumar, Director of SRM IHM
- Mr. R.A. Nadesan, Director – SRM Group, Vadapalani
- Mr. Krishna Kumar, Director – Triumph World Records
- Ms. J. Lalithashri – Vice Principal, SRM IHM
Students and faculty collaborated closely in this unique effort, highlighting the institution’s ongoing commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger.
Dr. D. Antony Ashok Kumar, Director of SRM IHM, remarked, “This record is not just about numbers. It’s about purpose—training our students to use their skills for a larger cause. Through innovation in food and teamwork, we aim to inspire young professionals to think beyond the kitchen and into the community.”
Mr. Krishna Kumar, Director of Triumph World Records, presented the Certificate of Achievement to Dr. D. Antony Ashok Kumar and Mr. R.A. Nadesan, along with honorary and participation certificates for all contributing students and faculty members.
In keeping with the spirit of the event, the 1993 baked Medhu Vadas—served with sambar—were packaged and distributed to the underprivileged through the NGO No Food Waste, ensuring that the message of Zero Hunger was not only displayed but also meaningfully enacted.
This achievement honours SRM IHM’s legacy and reflects the institute’s vision of aligning education with social impact, where culinary skills serve the community and drive change.
